Editor’s Note: Maj Gen Parvez Akmal is from Engineers. He lives in Rawalpindi after retirement. He writes Urdu and Punjabi poetry with his pen-name “P. A. Lala”. This Punjabi poem is a good attempt to reflect on our pathetic Election scenario. Urdu translation given after each couplet would help readers understand it better.

  1. Dear Parevez sb,
Intresting. Good that u translated that in urdu too , otherwise would have been difficult for me to undrstand that completely. I am a a Punjabi but like most of other urban Punjabis, unfortunately, we are good at ‘ bigri hoi urdu’.

  2. Shafqat Hussain says:

Wah Jee Wah…. Dil kudd lita nain

  3. Abid Butt says:

    • Maj Gen (Retd) Parvez Akmal says:

      Dear Abid Butt Sahib,
      Asslamu ‘Alaikum,
Sincere thanks for your kind encouragement; my prayers and regards,
      Lala.

  4. Malik Waseem Akram says:

O wah jee, Parvez Akmal, manna ditta nay. Very nice poetry.

  5. Parvez Akmal says:

    AoA and Ramadan Mubarak.

Many thanks to you all for bearing with a rather tough Punjabi fable. My apologies for a rather late response. I am so grateful for your notes of encouragement; particularly a candid comment by Capt Rahmani. I’ll see how I can introduce analytic conclusions in my subsequent modest writings.

    Best regards,
    P.A.Lala

  6. Lt Col (R) Nisar Sarwar Khara says:

Masha Allah…Good piece….Allah karay zore qalam aur ziyada.

  7. Lt Col Masood Alam (Retd) says:

Sir, good poem with unique idea. BUT sheep will remain sheep no matter what happens. We are circus lions & elephants, bound with a very weak chain. Once a leader comes and makes the lions & elephants realize their power, only then this nation will rise. It will take time but it is bound to happen. Regards.

  8. Lt Col Naeem Ahmed Khan ( Retd) says:

An excellent and unique poetry. But this stupid and clueless nation decided to keep wearing the Slavery Yoke, barring KPK. Let them suffer for another term if they’ve wished so. Bhains Kay aagay been bajaatay Jaen.

  9. A good poem, sir. The ‘Sheep’ of KPK have opted to get rid of the ‘Wolves’ in the recent Elections but the ‘sheep’ from other Provinces are still naive.

  10. Capt (R) M.Tariq Zaid Rahmani, Engrs (2nd SSC) says:

The poet described the sufferings of masses at the hands of the leaders but he did not derive lessons learnt or conclusion at the end. He should have also considered inflation and decrease in earnings imposed on the people (Sheep) by the IMF/World Bank/ADB, etc with the help of our leaders (Wolves). I am very happy that the poet has written the poem in his mother tongue.
